Competition
Intrigue Competition gives dancers a stage to showcase their talent with fair, transparent judging across 13 categories. Solo, duo/trio, small group, large group, line, and production divisions. Three judges score each entry independently, and every routine receives detailed audio feedback with video.

Studios can only receive either True Director or True Producer per event. Awards are non-transferable. Visionary winners are ineligible for Judges' Choice. Lighting limited to 7 cues with deadline.
Rules & Guidelines
Mini (6-9), Junior (10-12), Teen (13-15), Senior (16-21). Ages determined as of January 1 of the season year (2025-2026 season: Jan 1, 2026; 2026-2027 season: Jan 1, 2027). For groups, ages are averaged.
Solo, Duo/Trio (2-3 dancers), Small Group (4-9), Large Group (10-15), Line (16-24), Production (25-49), Extended Production (50+).
Solo — 3 min Duo/Trio — 3 min Small/Large Group — 3 min Line — 4 min Production — 5 min Extended Production — 7 min 1 point deducted per 5 seconds over the time limit + $5/dancer penalty.
Each judge scores 1-100, max combined score of 300.
True Artist — 291–300 Platinum — 276–290.99 High Gold — 261–275.99 Gold — 246–260.99
Upload .mp3 or .m4a via DanceComp Genie 7 days prior to event. USB backup accepted. All music must be edited for age-appropriate content — no explicit lyrics.
Props are allowed but must be self-contained. No glitter, confetti, liquids, or fire. Costumes must be age-appropriate.
Registration closes 4 weeks before event. Competition changes deadline: 3 weeks before ($5/routine fee after deadline). All contestants MUST be registered for convention to compete.
FAQ
Three judges score each entry independently on a 1-100 scale (max 300 combined). Audio feedback with video is provided for every entry.
Results are announced at the awards ceremony and posted on DanceCompGenie within 24 hours.
Yes — dancers can enter multiple categories and routines.
The highest scoring group routine in each age division (Mini, Junior, Teen, Senior) receives a $300 credit. All group sizes are combined — small groups, large groups, lines, productions, and extended productions. There must be at least 3 group entries in that age division for an overall award to be announced.
Yes, if the event allows for multiple solos based on competition size. Each solo must be in a different category — for example, a dancer cannot enter two contemporary solos at the same event.
No — professional dancers are not eligible to compete.
No — dancers cannot be registered under two different studios at the same event.
